A Common FrontPage Error

You may see the following or a similar error from FrontPage. The error generally complains that it can't create a directory.

The most common cause is as follows.  You opened the website on the web server and then published to your local machine. FrontPage pulls down all the directories such as logs, weblog and cgi-local. These are not really part of your site content. Now when you attempt to publish back to your web site the server will not allow you to overwrite these directories and the error is produced.

To fix the problem you must open the web on your LOCAL machine. Delete the folders, /logs, /weblog, and /cgi-local if it is there. The site will now publish without a problem.

NOTE:  FrontPage may notice that you have deleted these directories on your local machine and might ask you if you want to delete these directories on the remote site.  Answer "NO" to this question. FrontPage should only ask you this question one time.
